  • Zetetic Scholarby Marcello Truzzi
Marcello Truzzi was a sociology professor who was described as a “balanced” skeptic–he advocated for open dialogue between skeptics and believers in paranormal phenomena, and encouraged parapsychology investigators to improve their methodology. He helped to found the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) and his original newsletter titled The Zetetic became the journal for CSICOP. However, he decided the committee’s stance was biased against the paranormal rather the even-handed scientific discussion that he wanted, and resigned in 1977 (the title of CSICOP’s journal was soon after changed to The Skeptical Inquirer). He founded the Center for Scientific Anomalous Research and began publishing the Zetetic Scholar in 1978, which in addition to parapsychology and psychic phenomena also covered more obscure topics like UFOs, astrology, and unorthodox zoology and anthropology. Later on in 1982 he also helped to found the Society for Scientific Exploration. While the journal may seem a bit strange compared to some of the more modern publications, it and Truzzi himself had a large impact on the field of parapsychology as a whole.
